We have developed a new and highly efficient waste water treatment plant, the so-called Membrane Bioreactor (MBR), for the maritime waste water treatment and got it certified successfully as per the new IMO MEPC 159 (55).
It is based on the ultra filtration technology. The MBR plan combines the biological processes of activated sludge process with firm liquid separation by using membranes. This leads to higher cleaning capacities through the physical barriers of the membrane vis-à-vis solids and bacteria.
There are various possibilities of installing the membranes in the MBR system. We have decided on the most efficient – the dip-molded membranes. They are located directly in the waste water to be filtered (Bio-reactor). Oxygen is entered in the bioreactor through the aerator located at the base and leads to the decomposition of carbon-, nitrogen- and phosphorus compounds. The membrane surfaces are cleaned by the increased flow speed between the membrane plates.
The purified waste water flows from outside to inside through the membrane, where it is taken through the permeate main collector with a low pressure of approx. 0.1 bar. Bacteria, particles and virus are held back easily due to the small size of pores of just 0.05 µm.

We customize our MBR plants individually as per your requirements. A combination with other water systems e.g. ion exchangers, vacuum- or reverse osmosis units is possible and contributes towards the improvement of the entire water management concept. If the requirements as regards the existing waste water treatment plants increase, then an easy upgrading of the existing system is possible through MBR.

Our MBR plant meets all the currently valid official provisions (Alaska, USCG, MEPC 159 (55)).
As an alternative to MBR, we offer our world-wide clients an innovative bio-film procedure, which likewise meets the limit values of MEPC 159 (55).
